Pregnancy Related Pain and Osteopathy

During pregnancy a woman’s posture must adapt greatly to support the weight of the developing baby.  This can lead to a range of musculoskeletal symptoms such as lower back, neck and upper back pains as well as hip, knee and ankle problems.
Osteopathic treatment throughout pregnancy can help the body to adapt to the changes taking place.  Osteopathic treatment will incorporate a thorough assessment and examination before gentle, safe techniques are applied to help ease the muscles and ligaments causing pain.  Exercises and other self help techniques may also be prescribed for the mother to do at home.
Post natal osteopathy can help the body to readjust after the stresses of pregnancy.  After the birth of a child it takes many weeks for the body to return to normal as the hormones that enable your pelvis to relax during birth remain in your system for several weeks, this can cause pain in the pelvis and lower back as your body recovers.  Osteopathic treatment combined with gentle prescribed exercises can help reduce these aches and pains.
